French bikes aren't the only trouble makers. I've got an amazing Japanese made fuji touring bike from 1984. Great tubing, well made and actually fairly light. But it is made for a JIS headset. Other than the Hatta Swan NJ$ stuff, the only headset I could find was steel and cost $7 retail. It is a complete piece of crap.
So watch out for mid to low-end Japanese stuff too. |

It wasn't a Murray that was made by serrota, it was a Huffy.

Whoa!? whats the problem with 80's Peugeot conversions? I love mine. Everything is standard ISO, Ive used mine as my everyday/commuter for a little over a year and love the frame...

Note: edited because I felt uncomfortable revealing someone else's ownership of a bike. The below link is some evidence of their actual existence. I believe they're a bit rarer than the Huffy/ Team Seven Eleven bikes Greg Lemond rode, but they do exist. Kinda hard to believe you'd pick one up for a tener at a yard sale; but I did once find an Eisentraut built team bike at a thrift store, so stranger things have happened. |
Here you go:
