Anyone with a Miche Supertype - Please Read
So I have my Brand New Miche Supertype with less than 30 miles. I see my saddle and notice it moved too far forward and decide to adjust it...until...
I look at the little hex key to losen the saddle, and I see no bolt to losen. It either fell out or broke off...when I look in the hole, I clearly see that its threaded and I see some silver in there as if it stops at a certain point or the bolt broke halfway and the rest fell out somehow??? This sounds weird, but anyhow...I need to know how that bolt is. Can any of you unscrew it to see if its a bolt that can indeed be removed and replaced or is my seat just stuck now? If anything, Ill need to tap out the bolt...but I never removed it completely out, so I dont know how it actually works. Can anyone help? Its the small bolt on the rear of the post with the text labeled "Close >>>". |
I lost the same bolt riding on a trail, now my saddle squeeks annoyingly.
|
yeah its a bolt and it does come out. ive had 3 of em and i never had that problem.
did you remember to tighten it when you first installed it ? |
i haz miche supertype, i can measure the bolt pitch and length for u tomorrow
|
good luck finding a replacement. i had one, lost the little screw and was told by the rep they aren't available for replacement. they also said it'd perfectly fine to use without it, which i did for a couple years with zero problems.
if it's broke off in there, you'll need to drill or tap it out, but you don't need it to use the post safely. |
That little set screw does back out on occasion. The seatpost should be perfectly functional even without it.

the screw is useful for adjusting the angle of your saddle when you don't want the saddle rails to move forward or back. that's weird if the screw broke because it is really tiny

Then you adjust the saddle angle, tighten, and you're set http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2182/...d46891a5_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2165/...a1c23e5f_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2029/...88d40678_b.jpg |
an over complicated design. i sold mine and went back to a much more pedestrian easton one bolt.

Not to mention the amount of pull it eliminates in cross winds. |

What a complicated system.
|
get them @ homie depot
|
i think it's really clever
|
All it is is just a safety system in case the binder bolt should break for some reason, the saddle will not separate from the post. Now, how often does that happen? It adds too much clunkiness to an otherwise nice looking post.

Thanks for the reply guys...I thought that thing allowed me to adjust rails. I took off the entire seat clamp and what happened was my seat moved so far forward, it almost locked in place. I just used a rubber hammer and the clamps let came apart.
Anyhow, to me it looks like that screw doesnt do anything significant. I do however want to replace it since mine fell off (no Im not sure if I tightened it when I installed it). Does anyone know the size of the screw yet? I think Im going to go to Lowes or somewhere to see if they have a fit. Thanks, Sean * Thanks for the responses...great pics too. |

OT: Old DA posts have a nicer (IMO) system where the post clamps from the bottom with one bolt, but a second small bolt comes in from the front and acts as a stop so you can "index" where you were in angle adjustment while moving the seat forward or back.

imho two bolt > one bolt
and yea when i first used the supertype i couldn't figure it out lol. it is over engineered, but i guess it's not a "terrible" thing |

I had a seat binder bolt break once during a cyclocross race. Scared the ***** out of me (damn near skewered it out of me, too!) That was the main reason why I went with the Miche Supertype for my track bike. |
I wasn't interested in the Supertype at all until I saw all of the techno-geekery involved. Now I want one.
|
I had a bolt on an American Classic break once. Put a nice slice in my inner thigh; way too close to stuff that matters. That was pretty scary.

anyone know where i can find a supertype in 26.8 or 27?
turning down a seatpost or reaming a seattube just doesn't sound safe to me. |
AFAIK supertypes are only available in 27.2.
