How do you pronounce Miche?

I just bought a Miche rear hub, cog, and lock ring on ebay, and now I have my first wheelbuild to look forward to. I'm looking forward to the project. I'll need to pick out rims, spokes, and a front hub, and borrow a wheel truing stand. My biggest problem though is that I don't know how to pronounce Miche.

Some people insist that it is pronounced

MEEEShhh

I rather say "Mee Chee" or Mee Chay" sounds cooler even if it is wrong

I'm putting my vote in with MEE-SHAY. I can turn up that mp3 if you guys want it. I've posted it before. It'll take me a little while to find it though. Maybe tomorrow. I'm feeling lazy. Also, I'm pretty sure that Miche isn't part of the rundown.

I have a Ciocc with Miche hubs Kidding, I do have a Ciocc and Miche hubs, but they are not together because I spent too much time correcting people's pronounciation.

For the record, I have been saying "choke" for years and everyone (who knows bikes) has known what I was talking about. And I think it is "mee-kay" as the two shops that I dealt with called them that.

Miche seems French to me, in which case I'd say mee-shay.
If it's Italian, I'd say Mee-kay (ch=k)

Ciocc is Italian, so I'd probably go with chee-och (I know C is usually pronounced 'ch' in Italian, not sure about double-C though)

I often say Dura Acheh with a healthy smattering of sarcasm. Nothing wrong with a little mispronunciation.

Some other appreciated misappropriations:
Cracknfail (Cannondale)
Motobecan't (Motobecane)

So...could somone inform me as to why the C in Campagnolo isn't pronounced "ch"?

Miche is short for Michelin. So I've always assumed it to be MISH-eh with the trailing eh sound being almost silent.

if it's anything like the gaelic word "mishe" it's "mish-a". which means "i am", and, um...ostensibly has nothing to do with bikes.

If it was French wouldn't it just be Meesh? Since the "e" has no accent. I think we can all agree meesh sounds the coolest anyway. It reminds me of keesh (sp?), which is a type of pie.

mmmm. pie.

Seriously, can someone tell me how to spell keesh?

Yes, it would be Meesh since there is no accent.
That is if it is French.

That is if it is French.
If it were, it would be more like Mish, but with the high front lax vowel a little more front than the general English pronunciantion.

But Italian ain't French except in some parts of the world.

But if filtersweep's right, and my money's on it, the shortening of Michelin would be the reason I've heard Meesh a lot more than mee kay, though the mee kay would make sense if it weren't a sort of contraction. If it is though, it would be like calling the son on the Sopranos A.J. is a mispronunciation because it's supposed to be "Anthony Junior." And makes the mee kay as fun as duh RA che.

But don't listen to me, I ride a Kogswell, which is pronounced "it sure snows a lot in Minnesota."
