Oops, I must have started a hipster trend at my school

So, every so often when I feel like it in the morning, I bike to school instead of riding the bus (it's actually faster, but I don't always enjoy getting to school sweaty that early in the morning). I roll up my pants and generally wear a cycling cap. When I do ride to school, I usually bring my Chrome Metro instead of my usual Timbuk2 XL. I ride a steel CX bike for the time being though.

Fast forwards to 6 months later. I don't know how long they've been under my radar, but today I spotted 4 well-known ******bags who I know for a fact would never trade their SUVs for bikes. It wouldn't have been so bad if two of them were wearing cycling caps flipped up (a Credit Agricole and a Colnago), pants rolled up, and the worst part: 2 had Chrome bags, one had a custom Timbuk2, and one had a ****ING RELOAD bag.

Sorry, I'm ranting now. I dress how I dress for function over form. Granted, it looks good too. These guys blew all this money and still drive their big honkin' SUVs to school. Just to look....... hip. It just pisses me off when they really have no justification for it.

On the plus side, I wonder if they'll be selling it off in a few months...

/rant

Get a big gang of people from the "car free" forum to stand outside your school and point and laugh at them. I'm up.

Visually unroll your pants in front of them and flip your cap forward when you get off the bike because clearly you only dress like that because you ride.

I see tons of people with chrome bags. They're usually have tight girls jeans and other ironic clothing. I have only ever seen 2 people in my town who own chrome bags riding bikes.

Sidenote: I hate guys in girls jeans.

Me: "Oh hey guy in girls jeans what did you do last night"
Guy in girls jeans: "I cuddled with some girl and we talked about poetry"
Me: "Cool, I ****ed some girl, then we cuddled and talked about poetry"

Makes all the difference.

Ride a touring bike with a rack and pannier, you will be ignored and back to being a bike geek.

Trust me on this one.

I bike commute every morning too and nobody copies me. Actually, I'd be very happy if anyone did. But I am not as sexy/fashionable/hip as the OP.

Actually, this is how I met by best friend. I'm a huge computer geek and some dude was in class wearing a "Got root" shirt. I thought he was wearing it to be ironic so in an ******* move I said "Hey, do you know what that means..." and of course he goes "ya.. I do.. DO YOU?"

7 years later, best friend and only pal to stick by me thru tons of ****. Moral of the story, people can surprise you and it doesn't hurt to try and find out.

I graduate in less than 3 months, kthnx.

This thread was also started partly just for my own amusement. It's pretty funny to see the polarized responses I'm getting. The rate at which they're coming is pretty alarming too.

Mods, feel free to move this to the stupid thread when the time comes.

Haha, for sure, I hate when people jump to conclusions, maybe those guys do ride and he hasnt ever asked them. Honestly, it's pretty petty to bring the subject up, I mean, who cares? A lot of people wore skate shoes when I skated and I never was mean about it, or really cared. If you ever plan on riding a track bike without racing on a track, you're doing basically what they are doing.

I was making a joke, not at your expense, more along the lines of how a certain class of cyclists always have insane beards (re: get a touring bike...)

Take a peak at my post above this where I give you a heart warming story about judging someone because I thought he was just following a trend and how I met my best friend. Thats a pro tip if ever there was one.

Ask the d-bags "Do you guys ride?"
a) "Yes": "Cool lets ride sometime"
b) "No": "LOL why are you dressed like you do poseur?"

Win/win if you ask me.
