the pliers thing? i have one and i hate it. it's not really great for anything, but it's ok for a lot of stuff. i prefer the three toothed park tools one for BBs and lockrings.
edit: that looks like it might be decent. i still like my park tools one though

Use the tool to install Shimano Hollowtech BB shells, it works perfectly.

I found a used pair of Truvativ Rouleur Track externall BB/two piece cranks on eBay a while back and snapped them up - they're great! 172.5 is a little long for me, but I haven't had any problems with them so far and they're lightweight and attractive. 130BCD.

From what I gather, Truvativ used to make them with their standard product hierarchy (Elita, Touro, Rouleur, etc.) but didn't have enough demand or something, so they discontinued them. That's probably how Bikeman ended up with them.. and from the picture it looks like an Elita, which is fine. I wonder if SRAM will re-release them.

You can only mount the chainring on the inside, and the chainline is 40.5 from what I remember when I measured it.

They're Bontrager branded. It was mentioned before, these were probably meant to be for the Lemond Filmore.

Just so everyone knows, there aren't any more left. I got an email yesterday that they ran out right before I ordered. I called today and spoke with an employee that actually returned a set that he bought for his SS 29er (chainstays were too wide for the 44t ring), so they're sending me his. They're 175mm instead of 170 but I think they'll be ok. I know it was just a stroke of luck but I think the Bikeman people are really helpful!

Interestingly enough, the guy I spoke to said that these cranks were sitting around for the longest time, and only in the past two weeks have flown out the door. I think it was this thread. :D

I used to order mtn bike stuff from Bikeman waaaay back when, and they were always super awesome.
Glad to hear they are still going!

bward1028 03-22-08 08:28 PM

funny. good thing i ordered mine before i posted this.

I was going to post pictures of mine after they came today but when UPS showed up I got a tiny envelope containing a bottom bracket tool, yep, Bikeman screwed up. They are sending out 175mm version instead...I'm not a happy camper. I may end up sending the 175's back if they prove too long for the 'drome. They were okay cool about it but I would have rather gotten 170's. I'll keep you updated.

awesome for me,i'd rather have 175

If StewardMike doesn't want to trade, I might.

bward1028 03-25-08 12:33 PM

well, you guys just must have gotten unlucky. got mine today, 170mm, big "bontrager" on each arm.

stewardmike03 03-25-08 12:59 PM

was I correct about the 130mm BCD? I'm betting so. Post some pics!

stewardmike03 04-01-08 12:44 AM

Mine came...assembled them with a TA Specialties 51t ring, installed them...ring rubs stays...DAM!!! They're for trade. They are 175mm and would most likely work fine on a steel bike or at least one that has longer stays than a Fuji Pro. Beautiful...but incompatible.

blickblocks 04-01-08 12:43 PM

Yours came with a different ring??? Just trade the ring.

ps - These cranks rock! Perfect chainline.

stewardmike03 04-01-08 01:22 PM

no...mine came with a 44t. I need larger rings for the track. I bought the 51t ring. Now they rub my chainstays and I need something that fits.

Wouldn't another crank with the same chainline give you the same issue?

stewardmike03 04-01-08 02:35 PM

no...these have a 40mm chainline...a true track chainline is 42.5mm. The extra 10th of an inch will be enough to clear the frame stays. I'm going Sugino 75's for a true chainline this time...
