To say nothing of the merits of your argument, no, it's not the issue. You're trying to make it the issue, because presumably you've thought this argument through and read enough Crimethinc to support your case, but it's not.

dude's got a point.

No offense, but atleast with veganism, and trying to leave as little of an ecological footprint as I can, all I can really say about it is: "atleast I'm ****ing trying, what the **** have you done?"

There are about 1,000 descendants of the Aryan tribes and they live scattered around Gilgit, Hunza, Kargil and Leh. Being nature worshippers, they celebrate the Bononah (nature) festival and are strict vegans, which means they are not only strictly vegetarian but also don't consume milk or milk products

The few thousand Brok-pa Aryans have over 5,000 years lived in these hostile terrain at 15,000 ft altitude, subsisting on a vegan diet. Music and dance are a way of life for them. Both men and women wear colourful costume, decorating their hair with flowers, and are full of joi de vivre. They live in harmony with nature, and are cheerful and stress-free despite living in small rock shelters. They trek long distances.

The weather in September is pleasantly cold, though temperatures in January can plummet to -20 degrees Celsius. There are an unusually large number of Aryans above 70 years. Many are active even at 90.

Hey if you want to be a vegetarian, vegan, puss.ytarian, or even penistarian be my guest.

I go for long stints not having meat in my diet and everyone will ask me "are you vegetarian" and I will always say no. I don't like labels, I just eat what I want and don't pay no never mind to others.

Diet is like religion. Keep it out of my face. I don't give a crap what you eat and why you choose to eat it, just like I don't care what creation myth fairy tale you desperately cling to.

That being said, I liked the very very beginning of this thread about health and food and stuff. More of that. How can I get more protein in my diet? I always wake up feeling sick to my stomach what's up with that? How can I gain weight while still eating healthy?

you probably already have enough protein in your diet. you need about half a gram of protein per pound you weigh. if you want to gain mass its more of working your muscles more than how much protein you eat. granted yes you will need to bump up the protein to rebuild the muscle, but its only 1 to 1.5 gram per pound of weight. focus more on just eating balanced/ full meals with recovery meals and concentrate on hard work. (high weight low reps, not low weight high reps. two different muscle types will be worked)

Yes, some of the posters in this thread have been a little annoying but they've got nothing on you.

One of the cool things about living in Korea is how local and small scale the farming is here. There are small gardens and farms everywhere, even in large cities. Of course, it's easy to do in a country this small but unfortunately it seems to be changing with things like the FTA.

The cover on that book looks like a side dish. But I did some googeling on this seitan stuff, pretty interesting. If I ever find this wheat gluten stuff, I should try out some of these recipes.

https://www.vnv.org.au/site/index.php...d=80&Itemid=92

I don't really view these recipes as vegan, or vegetarian, I see it as just food. Not everything us non-vegans eat is meat. Such as a few days ago our meal was lentil (beans pretty much) soup stuff, served with a cabbage salad.

Oh and nothing can replace real milk. I drink soy (and wheat) drinks all the time, but I would never consider them to be milk replacements. That rice dream stuff just makes me feel full and sick.

I also saw a documentary on Indian cuisine, and how the poorer people can't afford meat regularly so they have devised some elaborate meatless dishes (to save money and stay healthy). But they use tons of non processed fat from milk (butter-like stuff).

Thats what I caught from the documentary, anyway...

seriously?! I'm pretty sure it was (and just about always is) the meat eaters that start the argument. I don't go into the Brooks saddle threads to say "cows weren't meant to be bike seats".

Not that I care, but spooki the op is notorious for turning brooks saddle threads into vegan arguments.

Not trying to start yet another argumentative tangent, but I would say that VERY few people--vegetarian, vegan, pus.sytarian, penistarian or otherwise--get 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight on a regular basis. I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say it is even more of a challenge to get that much protein as a vegan.

Let's just say a person is 180 pounds. No, wait, considering we're in a hipster forum, let's make it 150 pounds. On average, a person will require around 15 calories per pound of bodyweight in order to maintain...neither gain weight nor lose weight. That's 180x15=2700 calories. A gram of protein is around 4 calories. If you are saying (and I agree) that you'll need 1-1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight...let's just split it and say 1.25x150=187.5. Multiply by 4 calories per gram and that's 750. Divided by 2700 and roughly 28% of the calories you ingest should be protein.

If you really think you are getting that much, try tracking what you eat for two weeks.

www.fitday.com

Any vegans who actually get 25-30% of their calories from protein, please make your journal public and post up the link. I'd like to see how you manage that, just out of curiosity.

I started the last Brooks thread. spooki came in, but we resolved it with a level of maturity that is rare around here. This was intended to be a thread about vegan athletic diet not a "you better be vegan" thread. Can we discuss vegan athletic diets some more?
