How much is this Pista worth?

I have a friend who is wants to sell his Bianchi Pista. It is a 2001 (black) model and in excellent condition with no scratches or damage. The drivetrain has been updated a bit with new chain, cog, tensioner, a Sugino RD crankset, and Shimano 105 front brake. Everything else is original. What is a fair price for the bike?

Thanks

he could probably get around $400 or maybe even more for it. they frequently go on eBay for that much. also weren't the pistas like pre 2004 made with better tubing? like renyolds 520 maybe?

I think they're still using Reynolds 520, but I could be wrong. In any event, Reynolds 520 is just 4130 steel. It could be more desirable to a retro-fixed-gear-grouch who insists on using a quill stem.

$100 depreciation on a $500 bike over 7 years. It's a better investment than stocks!

Check BSNYC's pistadex rating.

Seriously though, don't be a jackass and go over retail for a new one

$400 seems really pricey to me. especially from a friend. I'd say $300 tops, depending on the condition. if I was selling a 7 year old $500 bike to a friend I'd ask for $150-200, but what do I know.

$400 seems high to me. Just because he could get that much doesn't mean you have to be dumb enough to pay that much.

But with that said...the frame is still in production and is 600 now with significantly less desirable parts. I would say 400 isnt unfair, if you are buying from your friend and its in as nice of condition as you claim, I would offer him 300.

Actually most stock indices have appreciated quite a bit over the last 7 years, so you're better off with stocks. But you can't ride stocks. You can peddle them though.

Well if you want to get technical, you have to amortize the sunk cost of the the bike purchase over the 7 years of ownership. This would have a net positive impact on total returns from $100 depreciated to $400 appreciated over the 7 years of ownership, assuming $500 purchase price. $400 net gain is over 12% per year thus rendering the Bianchi Pista the most financial sound investment in the history of short run stock arbitrage.

Everybody drop your Verizon and Apple stocks and invest in Pistas.

Honestly...
Anyways, it's a bike that is still made, meaning if its still in good condition then to buy the equivalent someone would have to pay 600 dollars and not get as nice of cranks etc. Quit trying to lowball the dude and give him the 3-400 dollars he deserves.

okay was I seriously the only person that was nervous about the mention of a chain tensioner on a fixed gear?
