Rev-X Spinergy (Front Hub Replacement?)
 

Alright so my question is, is it possible to replace the front hub quick release of my Spinergy wheel to regular one that uses screws and bolts? I feel that it would be safer for me to ride with a non quick release front hub. If so, can someone tell me what I should get to replace it? Any help is appreciated greatly.

P.S. I know Rev-X Spinergys are suicide wheels so don't tell me to get new wheels. I just want to know if the front hub is replaceable.

I also searched this on this forum and no one had any info about it, they only had info on the back wheel being converted with the Surly Fixxer which I am considering already.

I have Rev-X's too. The hub is not replaceable but I suppose you can replace the axle with a solid threaded one.
Why is the quick release not safe?

Haha, honestly I just think that lever will flip to open after repeatedly landing wheelies then somehow come loose. I guess it's my personal preference, I just feel insecure with it. Where can I buy the axle replacements for it, is the installation easy? If there's a special size, which size am I looking for? A link would be cool too. Thanks!

the quick release failing while landing wheelies on a spinergy should be the least of your concerns.

Sounds good, however someone suggested I can replace the quick release with an Allen Bolt quick release that seemed good to me but the person didn't leave me a certain brand or size? Anyone know where I can get it at? I'd like to have an Allen Bolt quick release over the lever because it would be harder to steal. What size should I get in millimeters? Again, this is for the front. Thanks

Take it to a shop. If you're replacing the axle it might become a complicated hack job best left to someone with lots of experience.

I have a set of Rev-X wheels and I replaced my quick release axle with a set of high security axles. These have a special allen wrench that will only work with your axle. It was a simple swap. Check your LBS, they should have some in stock, or just get regular allen axles which will work fine as well.

You have a rev-x and the part you feel insecure about is the quick release? Rofl!

I have the back wheel for the spinergy wheel and I'm trying install it to the front of the bike. Does anybody have any idea what I should do ?

This thread is full of poser. Just admit that you don't want the QR's on there because you don't think they look tracky enough.

Be quick about it too, because that wheel is probably going to shatter and kill you within the next couple of days.

You can ride what you want, but to anyone saying the qr isn't the problem I've seen EXACTLY what he mentioned go down. A guy came down from a wheelie, and on his way down the wheel fell right out of the fork. Not good.

I've seen how people on the internet run their toestraps. I have no faith in them being able to properly operate a quick release.

I just had another thought: Maybe someone who doesn't know the difference between a hub and a quick release wheel shouldn't fool around doing barspins and wheelies on a ten year old carbon wheel known for catastrophic failure. I mean, not that anyone should, but least of all, this guy.

I am sure it used to be a bit easier to get a straight answer on these forums....

Just take the wheel to your local good shop, and tell them to convert it to track nuts/axle. Done. It is
easy to do yourself, but you sound like you are worried about the qr coming off, so maybe you will feel
better knowing a pro mechanic has done the work. The allen key ones are better for theft I guess.
