OT: Narrow escape of the day
 

Today while cycling through a certain Scottish city that starts with E, I entered an intersection with two lanes of traffic going in my direction. I was occupying the entire left hand lane; it was a "green lane'' reserved for buses and bikes. Since I'm in the UK I was curbside, on the left hand side of the road. The driver of the car occupying the right hand lane (that's the lane towards the middle of the street) swung into my lane, in an attempt to turn left. This was a mirror image of your basic right hook, except that I had the full lane. I yelled, turned hard left and bounced off the side of their car. I kept rolling, went up on the sidewalk at the opposite side of the intersection, rolled off the curb and continued on my way, in the left hand lane as before. I took out their mirror with my hip and probably scratched their door, but my bike and I suffered no injuries or damage whatsoever. I thought about going back and then didn't, i just didn't feel like getting yelled at by an angry Scot for something they did to me. On a scale of 1 to 10, how bad am I for leaving the scene of an accident?

It's technically A&S and I wasn't even riding a fixed gear. :)

I looked back the first 2 or 3 times it happened.

Now, I don't even realise or get angry now that i'm used to hit.

Isn't that just part of riding a bike? Pedaling, steering, braking mirrors.

same thing happened to me on monday. and the friday before that it happened and i had no time to stop, so i got hit, trashing my dura-ace/open pro wheel :-(

i had a similar encounter with a large truck swerving in front of me to parallel park which meant crossing the bike lane i was in. needless to say it took me by surprise and i took his mirror out with my shoulder. raised my fist and yelled at him but continued on my way. it wasnt until i was a block away that i really wished i had stopped and really laid into him. f***ing motorists.

Ha, I was lucky, as I was rolling away a big dude who was on the corner watching the whole thing ran out at the car and yelled "Watch yer fookin drivin". Im feeling more like everything went as it should have.

Did you finish the event with a pint of brew?
because if not, everything didnt go as it should have.
