Does any one have a 700c coaster brake wheel?
I am thinking about doing this to my fixed gear, to get rid of my front brake and not have to worry about pedal strike on corners. Has anyone had any problems doing this? I ride this bike to class (less than a quarter mile) everyday.
Does anyone have a 700c coaster brake wheel they would sell me?
thanks for any help!

if u ride less than a 1/4 mile everyday, then pedal strike should even be a high priority concern imho.

how hard is it to just build my own? Could I just replace the hub that i am using now and use the rim, spokes, and nipples I have now? The Sheldon brown tutorial doesn't look too hard. I have trued my own wheels...

I've swapped out a crusty old road hub for a crusty 3-speed coaster. Easy if you have another wheel to use as a pattern.

If your class is really less than 1/4 mile, why are you even bothering with a bike...it takes 2-3 minutes to walk that.

It's pretty easy and rewarding to build your own wheels, but rarely is it less expensive than buying a pre-built one. Though if you're building a coaster wheel, you could probably have an old hub super-cheap and just use that.

Unless the new hub has the same dimensions as the old one you're gonna need new spokes. You have to take spoke count into consideration too.I think most coaster brake hubs are 36,so if you're rocking a 32 you'll need a new hoop as well.

Measure the flange diameter and the hub width. Also there are some spokelength calculators on sheldons site so you could enter the hub/rim combo and then compare.

There isn't much choice in coaster brakes. If you can't find an old bendix or a new velosteel (both of which are pretty scarce), get a new Shimano E-110. They were about $15 last time I looked.
Before you ask, the hub is 110mm wide and will fit 120mm dropouts just fine.

If you're using any kind of foot retention with a coaster you need a front brake even more than on a fixie. Its much harder to trackstand because of the 1/8 or so of a crank rotation between drive and brake.

if you're anywhere near bloomington, indiana, come and steal one off of the hundreds of little 500 bikes in this town. in a night you could probably score upwards of 50+ wheels from bikes that people don't even use.
oh yeah, they are pretty ****ty wheels.
