man, it just isn't that hard to tell who is taking it easy and who dusted off their bike for a nice weekend out

no semi-serious roadie gets a workout on the bike path

lol - a thread about one group of freds talking about trying to drop another group of freds. Indeed classic.

The 20% BF 'roadies' you are talking about dropping are hardly real roadies. Any decent racer will shell you like the chump you are.

They lucky I scan my radar before launching snot rockets, mane.
This is similar to people who critique other peoples workouts in the gym.

Just like you have no idea why people are doing the workouts they do (could be an off day/rest day/high rep/low rep/) or what condition they are really in (physical therapy/low tone/high tone/injured elbow/knee/etc...) you really have no way of knowing anything about the person you just passed.

Maybe their cooling down from a 90 mile ride, maybe their just starting up, maybe they actually have a workout they're following and don't get caught up in pissing matches w/other riders.

So it's really nonproductive to get too geeked about passing people.........but yeah.....it does feel good anyways

p.s. the term snot rocket should be banned from the internet.....ewwww

Saying you drop roadies on your bike path home is like gunning your 80s Honda at a red light against a Ferrari. And then bragging to your buddies how you smoked him with your Honda even though he had no idea you were racing.

Now if you roll along side said roadie and ask him if he wants to sprint to the next telephone pole (or whatever marker seems suitable), then he accepts and you drop him then, okay brag away. Although randomly asking someone to race can be kind of rude and unwanted to some, if you approach it in a courteous way can be fun and you may even make a friend.

You can hardly judge anyones ability based on their bike/clothes. Only the thing you can judge is about how much money they were willing to drop on their gear.

these threads were more awesome when there wasn't such a communal understanding

personal attacks, lifestyle judgements, coolness factor, ageism, talk of the 'culture'

I'm gonna weigh in here. Most guys who wear spandex are complete tools, and I burn by them on my IRO whenever I see them on my local multi-use path. They think they can buy speed with that ridiculous lycra and fancy carbon and foot-retention pedals. What tools. They never catch me.

Which part thrills you, dropping them for a second or flying over the bars into some bushes when they apply their frame pumps to your front wheel?

Real roadies don't carry frame pumps. They carry co2 cartridges (or cell phones). Frame pumps are for the freds like me.
