Can I just switch the hub?
 

Here's the deal - I've got a 27" x 1 1/4" wheel with a 36 hole fixed hub and the whole fixie setup on it. I want to convert a new bike and use these old parts and am wondering if it's possible.

The other wheel is 700 x 25c. It's current hub has the same number of spokes.

Even without measuring, I can see that the spacing of the spokes is closer on the 700 wheel, so my assumption is that if I was to switch the hubs, I'd have to get a new set of spokes.

So - does this sound right? I can stick it in, just with new spokes, or are there other calculations I'm missing?

also depending on the clearance of the new bike you might have problems, a 700c wheels is a tad bit smaller than a 27" so if you put a 27 on the 700c frame you will prolly have the tire hitting the brakes and/or the frame, on my road bike (not my fixie) i have less than a cm of brake and frame clearance and my fixie frame is for 27 in wheels, and even long reach brake calipers wont make a 700c wheel work (but i don't need a rear brake anyway)

unless you meant lace the hub from the 27in wheel to a 700c rim, then you would just need new spokes

I've converted a lot of 27" frames to 700c without incident. Most 27" frames came with mid-reach (not considered long-reach) calipers, which adjust easily to the 700c wheels. Worst case scenario - you buy some new long-reach brakes and call it a day.

So - what's necessary to put that hub from the 27 to the 700?

You're going to need new spokes.
That hub is a formula, you should be able to find measurements with minimal amounts of time on google.

I found the Formula hub specs from spocalc.xls, which were taken from dtswiss.com

but I can't find the info for the rim. It's an Ambrosio 19 Extra Elite. Where can I find the specs for it?

one would imagine you'll need a new rim as well...

tinydr, you're saying that the rim is bogus and I need to get an entirely new rim?

You can most likely use the 700c rim you already have. All you need is new spokes. Maybe new nipples as well, if you mess those up removing them, but probably not.
