New here and need some help

Hey guys I've been lurking on here for a while and now I need some help. I'm looking to get a single speed bike for just cruising around town on weekends. I'm looking for a shop that I can walk in a basically piece one together. One with a good selection and in the SoCal areas of Inland Empire, Orange County, or LA. Looking for a basic bike for under $700 if possible.
Thanks

almost any shop can get fixed/ss stuff, but most wont stock it, but if you know what size you need (and if you dont just get sized) they can order stuff, most shops get supplied by qbp, and they have almost everything under the sun, if your doing a custom build from a shop (ie not getting a frame online) i think pake would be one of you cheeper options, and i believe most shops can get those frames, i know the bike shops at REI can get em, and those are all over cali

disclamer: i work at an rei, thats why i know what they can get, not trying to go onto forums and push rei or anything, just what i know (besides i get payed hourly, how the company does doesn't effect me)

Check out veloculture in San Diego if it's not too far.

why not just buy an old frame and do a conversion; save a bunch of money

Thats what I'm trying to do. I don't want one that is preassembled with some parts that I don't want. I just need names of local shops that stock a good supply of parts so I'm not driving all over Southern California. Thanks for the advice so far guys. The pake was one option. Also I would piece one off ebay but I think shipping all the seperate parts will be expensive.

aren't there like a million kids that ride fixed gears in LA? they can't all be riding merciers they bought online.
