Suggestions for strong, resonably priced frame.

Anyone have any suggestions for a somewhat inexpensive frame that can handle quite a bit of abuse. I was kinda of toying with getting a bianchi pista. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just built up a Spicer track frame yesterday. It's a pretty basic steel frame. Rumor has it it's the same as the Mercier Kilo TT. I haven't seen enough of the Kilo to make a judgment, but they do both have the same rack mounts, and a similar fork. I needed to chase the threads in the bottom bracket shell and cut them a little deeper, but the headtube came pretty much ready to go, which was a pleasant surprise for such an inexpensive frame. It seems to ride well, but I only got a few hours on it yesterday, then it rained today, so I rode a different bike (one with fenders), but tomorrow, I should finally get to take it on a significant ride.

I think that the IRO is what you should look at. If you're going to treat a bike like ****, better it be straight-gauge tubing than butted tubing.

agreed. straight-gauge 4130 isnt light, but it can take a beating.

I agree, but I don't want to give the impression that it's super heavy, either. My group buy IRO, built up with a carbon fork, weighed around ~17lbs. That's a pretty respectable weight, especially considering how I had it built up.

thanks everyone. my price range maxes out at about 400. iro and spicer look pretty tempting and the price is definitely right.

my mark v is around that weight with the stock fork. I think, i haven't actually weighed it i'm just basing that off the shipping weight when i ordered it.
