Getting a new bike.
 

Well, I made a post yesterday about a headset, well, i found everything and headsets fine, now I found 40 other problems, so i decided I'm buying a new bike. I have a few question, maybe someone here can help me out.

well first off is a surly steamroller a good bike for fixed gear conversion? and to convert a single to a fixed, i just need to change the crank right?
other question was is a track and single the same thing?

SS infers the ability to coast, while fixed gear refers to a fixed drive train. Many entry level bikes include a rear wheel with a flip flop hub, meaning that depending on which side of the hub is in line with the cranks, one could either run SS or FG. Singlespeed and track bikes are not necessarily synonymous, because the track bike label usually denotes a fixed drive train.

ya, i noticed it comes with a flip flop, so in that case, its fixed/free right? so crank has nothing to do with whether its fixed or not? all about the hub or cog? i

Yes. It is a matter of freewheel for SS vs. cog for FG.

hub is double sided. one side free, one side fixed.
