Some people have overly sensitive anuses and require something softer, apparently.

I bet half the people on this forum who love their Brooks Saddles, are the same Kooks I see with their saddle nose pointed to 2 o'clock. Its Hip to Back Brooks, and some people can ride anything....

Oh... I ride a B-17 everyday... Its a good saddle

Gyeswho 04-16-08 06:36 PM

I love my Brooks!

Just got mine today for free off a junked peugeaut with a bent frame! So stoked! The saddle is practly brand new. I put about twenty very comfy (though a little bit slidy) miles on it this afternoon. Very happy so far.

Rusty Piton 04-16-08 07:17 PM

Also, not a single vampire attack in all those miles!

peugotpigeon 04-16-08 07:26 PM

i heart my brooks, breaking a new one in sucks though
but i say its definitly worth it, nothing is better than a seat perfectly formed to ur posterier

ryansexton 04-16-08 07:34 PM

My Selle Italia works fine. I haven't ridden 1,000,000 miles yet, but I'm sure I'll have the same opinion. Its firm and comfy.

Ugly, heavy, and require special care, qualities I avoid when shopping for components.

Seconded. The best things about them is the firmness before they're broken in (in which they feel like any decent modern saddle), and that they're made in England. Otherwise, I find them to be antiquated pud-killers that need more care and attention than a child.

nathbdp 04-16-08 08:32 PM

Dont get a B17 if you ride in the drops and in more aero positions. they are made for upright riding.

jabikuta 04-16-08 08:44 PM

Got a brooks a few weeks ago. Haven't been able to break it in because of school but it's already more comfortable than my old saddle.

Really though your analogy doesn't equate because the production of a saddle (and the subsequent death necessary for its creation) is done for an entirely different set of reasons than a bear killing humans. At least I assume so, the bear probably wasn't making them into saddles, of course if he was then it would change.

Agree on the murder being in the eye of the beholder part. But I feel the analogy still holds true. Just because bears aren't resourceful enough to use our hides as saddle-coverings doesn't mean we don't kill for the same reason. I doubt that most cows are killed for leather. Note I say most, I am aware there are specific leather-destined cows out there, but this is such a small percentage I will assume it's effect to be null. Then again, do bears kill humans for food? I'm not sure, maybe it's protection. In which case, those cows were coming right at me. I had to eat them.

Sorry to bring this back up, but shouldn't we use more leather in the U.S. just to avoid waste? (not an opinion on brooks saddles)

That assumes that growing animals for food and hide, transporting and tanning the leather is not wasteful. I'd argue that using leather as an "environmentally sound" alternative to plastic saddles is, at best, a total wash.

good point. I was only thinking as far as that its already been killed to make meat, so if we don't use the rest we're being wasteful.

World War Z, anyone?

nathbdp 04-17-08 01:58 AM

Is that like Metal Slug X? If so, yes plz.

Kilgore Trout 04-17-08 02:00 AM

Ditch the Brooks idea. My Fizik changed life. Synthetic, fairly affordable (via ebay), and comfortable as a mothers womb...
