Alex R450 Wheelset?
Any opinions on these wheels? I can get a set for $100 from a local spot. The price is definitely on point, the only thing I'm worried about is it's a 32h setup and I'm 200+ lbs.

Do it. That price is awesome. I'm 200 and I've never even consider getting 36es
edit: I should mention I build my own wheels and have never broken a spoke. dbl edit: What kind of hubs? trpl edit: Do it! Those rims look so freakin' beefy. Do it. |
I have a set, and although I'm only 165lbs, I just beat the living crap outta those wheels, and they have held up great: still true and round, and still make a "ringing" sound when you ride on smooth pavement.
at only a hundred bux for the pair, I bought two sets, and after nearly a year now, I still haven't even installed the lockring on the spare pair yet. |
Sounds good. I think I'll make a purchase tomorrow.

From the collective? I won a set at Salt City Sprints. I'm using them and they're fine so far. I don't know what the hubs are, but Todd said he thinks they're Godspeed.
Edit: I'm a buck fifty soaking wet, so I've never really had problems with any wheel and I haven't been using them long enough for the hubs to cause problems. I've talked to several people who have been using them for quite some time with good results, I'd say go for it. |

For anyone looking up Alex R450. I have a pair that has just 200 miles and already they are not true and our of round. I am only 150 Lbs. and I do not beet my wheels up. Then when I when to true them up the spokes were spinning with the nipples. DO NOT get these!

If i remember right my rear wheel is a r450 laced to a redline low flange hub. Mind you they were tensioned and trued before I got it from a friend who had used it for some time before me. I have been on t for a year and im 250lbs and its still true... it is 36 spoke and Im sure that helps... I went and got the r450 front laced to a formula hub because it was only gonna cost me $53. We shall see how it holds up but I have faith. Anyway for $100 for the set I say go for it. Are they laced to formulas also?

i have an r450 front to shimano hub on my road bike. if it's cheaply built it will come out of true but otherwise it's a light, somewhat stiff wheelset. no where near as stiff as a 36h deep v setup but a lot lighter.
