I probably live in a rougher city/neighborhood than all you guys combined that are carrying guns (portland, milwaukee, houston...come on, give me a break) and I dont care anything besides my u-lock and fists.

My daddy always told me there is no such thing as a fair fight. Either you have the advantage or the other guy does. So I'm just being prepared, I got a u-lock too. But if the other party has something more substantial, so do I. I learned the hard way, by getting a .44 mag shoved in my face for my car. Catch me slipping once, shame on me. Try that carjackin/bikejackin sh*t again and you get a hydrashock in the *****.

LóFarkas 04-18-08 02:40 PM

You guys live in a screwed up country if that is necessary.

Come on man!! The eastern warsaw pact is just as bad. I use to live in Poland born and rasied. Been all over that region, hell your bordered by Romania for christ sake!! Don't get me wrong its beautiful but you'd get killed for you bike there quicker than in Houston. And in most place in europe you can't even think about a CHL license.

veeco23 04-18-08 03:03 PM

the fact that people can carry guns around on their person really bums me out.

dc's repudiation of the second ammendment ftw.

Also, I used to live in the heights neighborhood in Houston, so I am Laffin at your tougher hood. Where exactly do you live Vladivostok?

I'm pretty sure Houston has as rough of neighborhoods as any city in this country.

Frenchic 04-18-08 03:10 PM

Seriously?

First of all, you don't pull a gun out if you don't intend to use it, meaning shoot the person. The perp can take the gun from you. Or pull their own gun out and shoot you.

Second of all, where in Milwaukee and what time? I was out last night, intoxicated on my bike and everything was cool, even in sketchy Riverwest.

On a more sober note one of my best friends was murdered in a robbery in this area a few years ago.

Fact is, you never know wtf is gonna happen where. Better to cover your own ***** than end up in an f'ed up situation and no way to deal.

I'd expect for those that live in such a rough neighborhood they'd have already learned this lesson, but I'm going to go with internet tough guy persona attitude ftl.

hanjin 04-18-08 03:42 PM

Internet tough guy, that's me!! I shoot IDPA, and self defense three times an week, had a CHL since I was 21. Never had to use my gun, but I'm 380-390 out of 400 most days out to 75 ft with my G27. I can use my weapon when I have to. If your in Houston swing by Shiloh Shooting range, I'm there most of the time with my brother. I ride my bike there all the time.

Damn, where'd you learn to shoot like that?

Only guy I know that can do that with a pistol is a Marine corps marksmanship instructor.

I'll be in Houston the weekend of May 9th, if you're really down I won't have any firearms but you can rent at that range?

I'll be visiting family down there and I want to teach my dad how to use a scope. PM me if you're interested I might know of some long range people we can go with to see if we can do 1000 yards or something.

75ft with a pistol is pretty hardcore though man.

I've been shooting a long time with a pistol, just recently started shooting open class IDPA, and GSSF. Actually my younger brother is better than me, he beats me most times we enter competitions together. You can rent most anything at our range from Glock to HK to 1911, but its pistol only. There are a few long ranges nearby.

That place is a hole. I'm about ten minutes by bike from my range and I'm great friends with the owners. So it's the only place I shoot anymore. I used to go to Carter's Country but those guys have been dicks to people in the past too. I'm happy with my small range.

I don't carry a gun, but seriously shut the **** up.

I could care less who carries a gun, I am pro bill of rights, and that means all of it.

I've never been to the Carter's range but if it's anything like their store over here on 59 and Murphy, they can sod off. I once had a ****** bag old guy tell me I couldn't purchase or hold an AR15 because I wasn't 21.

That does suk. Some people just don't want to sell guns, they just want leave them behind the counter. I've run into situations like this at gun shops and most recently a bike shop. It's always nice to ask for the manager or owner and let then know that their sales person is losing business for them. They love to hear from you.

You guys are lucky you aren't to far from riflesonly. I can't wait until I save up enough loot to spend a week or so down there.

That's only if you stick around like an idiot and wait to deal with the cops and get arrested.

I'm pleasantly surprised this thread has not turned into a knee-jerk anti-gun thread. somehow I have always thought of bicyclists as super-liberals with narrow minds about everything. I think the fixed gear scene is different and thats why i like it. its more real (from the street).

the thread we had about the guy who grabbed his bike thief in the neck pissed me off. the main poster who was annoying is from my state (which is a big liberal state full of bleeding hearts). a few people tried to say he went "too far" by grabbing his neck and i was like WTF??? So the fact that there are many sensible gun owners here makes me feel proud. Americans who are law abiding and respectful absolutely deserve to carry concealed. it doesnt make everybody a gun freak, its just the way it is here.

When I was in 7th grade (13yo) my home ec teacher told us we could put a gun rack on our bikes and ride around with shotguns if we wanted to. Idaho. . .

you hit a crackhead with one of these and you should be fine.

truth. You dont need to carry a gun, just a fatty chain or a U and you have every ounce of defense you need if someone gets violent with you and you need to defend yourself.
