Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Look out for cabs. . .

Got cut off by a cabbie today. Heading into an intersection, he got in the right hand turn lane and, behind him, I continued along in the bike lane (unposted but obvious in that area). So he doesn't turn right, but instead guns it in an attempt to pass the guy in the proper lane and swing back in before the end of the intersection. Being a total tool, he fails, and swings back in like less than a foot in front of me, on his brakes. So I resist the pedals and hit my brake hard enough to do a little endo, move around him and smack his trunk really hard and loud (hopefully scaring the feces out of him), and give him the finger right in his face as I pass the driver's window. Wishing he was right, he honks at me, then passes me and honks again. But I had the last laugh, as he got stuck in traffic and I passed him like he was standing still, because he was.
Anyway, the moral of this story is "don't trust cabbies". They're nuts.

Cabs will kill you. Or will rear-door your ass under a passing truck.

I hate to say it but I have yet to meet a cabbie who hasn't made my blood boil with their outright disrespect for life.

I want a cabbie to prove me wrong, I really do, but my life has come too close to ending far to often only to have them shrug it off.

in providence it's the trolleys that i've found to be the most homicidal. cabbies are more akin to big dumb animals that don't know their own size.....just like RIPTA busses.
