Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hello world.

I'm new to the forums, and have a quick story and some questions.

I've been riding on trails for a long time with my MTB, and just recently moved to an area where commuting by bike is very doable. I'm talking flat, mild traffic, mild pedestrian, and probably 5mile one way trips on average. Anywho, i adventured on a couple fixed gear bikes on a trip to Atlanta and fell in love. Typical story. Probably some typical questions about to follow. So now, i'm jumping on the bandwagon, and i want a streamlined, sexy, but functional machine.

Now for the real shtuff. I'm no hipster, but i'd be lying if I said i don't dig the Deep V rims. A lot of the more plain and no color rims that are totally rad though are nearing 1,000 dollars. Since i'm not trying to shave my hair off to try to obtain some world record, i'm going for a low budget. I also have another problem, i'd like the bike to be somewhat light , and i like to go fast.

I found myself a nice fuji frame for 10 bucks, i'll be sanding/painting that in a week or so. My problem is, i need basically everything else for this guy. This is what i'm thinking, but i'd like experienced people to tell me i'm stupid, if i am.

Since i need a new fork, i guess i'm going to go threadless on the headset. Yay or nay? Suggestions on style of fork would be appreciated. Or something that should be brought to my attention.

165mm cranks, 46T chainwheel, 16Tcog

Rubbers still undecided. Probably beaded.

3/32" chain, hopefully purple

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

aesthetically, threaded is king"
