Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I just went to get lox on a bagel and a white man approached me, held a knife to my face and told me to hand over my toshi doubles.

NYC is gully

Sorry about that, Prolly.

I needed them.

Now give me your bagel. Sans lox.

I had a vivid dream last night:I locked my QR front wheel alone, the next thing I know I find my rear wheel detached from the bike and mangled. I have never been to NYC, but for some reason I thought I was there during this dream.

best advice is to chain the bike to your body/ never get off of it even if you have to take a crap.

If you're coming into the city to really see the city I wouldn't bring a bike. It will be so much easier or more enjoyable without one.

I've lived in NYC my entire life and I would never lock up my bike on the street. At least not a bike I value.

THAT is too paranoid. I've been locking up daily, sometimes for as long as 16 hours, for about 5 years now and all that has ever happened to me (knock on internet wood) is some cheap nashbar bars and stem stolen. I learned my super glue lesson from that. Now I don't even ride 'beaters'.

Of course any locked bike can be stolen and certain areas are worse than others but if you discourage the theft enough, they will just pick an easier target.

Question:

If you superglue bolts in - how do you eventually get them out at home?

acetone and something sharp.

I am more of a fan of filling the nuts with solder, myself.

Well that's the thing, I don't want to have to super glue anything or wrap 6 chains around. I'm not a messenger so I never have a need to lock up my bike but if you have a nice bike and you lock it up, you're just asking for it to get stolen. If a thief wants it, they'll take it no matter what you do to it.
