Please any creative thought on conversion ?
 

I recently bought this vintage Raleigh . I would like to convert this into fixed gear. And I am kinda a confuse whether I should leave the original color or not . Because the original color looks very unique as well as its bit too colorfull. Can some one give me any creative colors that might suit this frame.


I was thinking of painting the frame in black and leaving the chrome part as it is . like the Gunner bike in the picture.

any thoughts are most welcome. Thank You.

If you can convert an old Raleigh into a new Gunnar I'll be very impressed.

Short of that there are plenty of threads and articles on converting bikes to fixed gear. Start here and don't come back until you've at least read these two articles Fixed Gear Conversions by Sheldon Brown and Fixed Gear on the Cheap by Tom Deakins

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see any chrome on that frame...

I say leave 'er. There's nothing quite like old paint with character.

Take all the junk off, new wheels, cranks, saddle, and brake levers, and you should be golden.

lightly sand with 1000 grit and spray a few coats of clear. don't f*** with history. please no deep V's - we already have enough sheep around here.

leave it that color. I found one of those in the dumpster once and it was awesome, but sadly the frame was not aligned

yea, I thought of leaving the history as it is meaning not messing with the original frame color. As always Old is Gold. Thank you for your opinion guys. I really appreciate that.

don't chop anything off of it...the guys over at C&V will punish you. i got enough flack for just turning my miyata into a FG

That paintjob is rad. If you paint it black I'll have to punch you in the stomach.

leave the colors...Everyone murder's out their bike but nobody rocks the rainbows much.

Ugly and weird is GOOD. Keep her stock Pappy. Also, the "chrome part" you were referring to isn't chrome and it's called a "crankset"

I can't believe that you'd want to paint that bike, the colors are perfect! It's going to make a beautiful, clean and unique fixed gear bike, leave the original paint be!

people use deep v's because they're cheap and durable.
they aren't nearly as tired as this "my taste in parts is so unique" rhetoric.

It may not be your cup of tea, but that paint job is very unique. I've seen about a million raleighs and owned a fair number, and that's the first one like that I can remember. Probably real early 80's I'm guessing. Not saying it's necessarily a great or valuable bike (all signs point to cheap beater type rig), but the paint is definitely unusual and worth keeping around.
