Saddle opinions for a fixie
Hi all, didn't quite know where to post this, but i was wondering if any of you had any advice on saddles for a track bike. I need something narrow, relatively cheap (~$100) and good for biking without chamois shorts. I currently am riding a Selle Italia SLC gel flow with a cut out in the middle, but not liking it too much. Lots of pain even after short rides. I want to try and make it more enjoyable. I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs.
Also, how do you all feel about cut out vs. none? Does it make that much of a difference for you? Thanks! Love to hear what you think. |
The only one that will work is Broox.

http://www.bikeforums.net/images/editor/separator.gifim personally a fan of the fizik gobi (about 90$) and of course, brooks

i don't know what the model is, and i'm too lazy too look it up, but i really like that san marco saddle that comes with the KHS flite 100.
|
i hear a lot of mixed things about brooks. could you elaborate? i ride with my bars slightly below the saddle line if that makes any difference. Any particular saddle by brooks? thanks!

It's the only one that will let you run a fixed gear.

Bruv, there's like 20 saddle threads on the first couple of pages this board. Quick summary: width (should be wide enough for your sit bones), shape and angle (should be horizontal to a little bit up) are the things that are going to affect your pain or lack thereof. If you're doing longer rides and not wearing bike shorts, you probably want something with a reasonable amount of padding. otherwise there's no real way to tell what's going to do you right, but there's a trade thread (and a saddle only one in 'for sale') if you want to try something new...

heroin saddles are great when you need a "fixie"

thanks a lot. i will definitely check it out. does anyone have any opinions on cut out vs. non? seems like a lot of these high end race type saddles have cut outs and people swear by them whereas the brooks dont. just wondering if there is any substantial difference.

Did you set up your saddle level and adjust from there?

yeah i set it level then tilted it slightly both forward and back. i hear it works pretty well for others, so maybe its just me. i'm just trying to find something better for commuting/fun rides. we are talking less than 60mi. a week on the streets.
