One Less Fixie

Everyone in San Francisco knows well the "one less car" sticker that comes as part of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition membership pack. Today on my ride to the grocery store (on my FG crosscheck emblazoned with the "one less car" sticker) I saw this bike.

Does this mean the start of a rebuttal campaign? "ONE LESS REAR DERAILER" ... "ONE LESS BRAKE (TWO IF LAW WOULD ALLOW)" ... "17 LESS GEAR RATIOS" ... "2000 FEWER DOLLARS"

I know he's making fun of me and many others but it still made me smile. If someone's that proud of their ride, you can't but admire it and feel equally proud of yours. Is it wrong of me that I want one for my fixie (in an ironic fashion)?

Road bikes are so cool. I've only ridden fixed on the track lately and it feels great.

andrewssohip 05-01-08 09:13 PM

people find the most insignificant things to rebel against...
i'd like to see a sticker that says "one less sticker."

(wow... that's deep)

x136 05-01-08 09:49 PM

I'd like to see one that uses the word "fewer" instead of "less" for once.

Ironically putting that sticker on your fixed gear would raise your hipster irony points by 23.

That'd be good because I lost 16 hipster points when I decided not to by Chrome shoes and 8 points when I opted for the longer Kryptonite lock instead of the short one tucked in my belt.

i think you actually may have gained 16 points by not buying them...thats an extra 8 points you can put towards a pair of checkered vans.

kyle! 05-01-08 10:39 PM

yeah but every time he stops at a light and doesn't trackstand he loses a point so he very well could be too far in the red for it to matter.

AZKakaAZK 05-01-08 10:52 PM

stop at lights...? well, i guess if you really have to. i thought track standing was only for eating burritos and taking naps.

kyle! 05-01-08 11:03 PM

my point exactly, not only would he be stopping, he wouldn't be trackstanding. double negative bro-ham.

fanta510 05-01-08 11:10 PM

'one more bike' sticker > 'one less car' sticker

I always thought that the "one more bike" stickers were less ******baggy, myself.

Hobartlemagne 05-02-08 06:15 AM

He might end up having one less Brooks. Someone should teach him how to lock the bike too.

So if you ride a road bike around SF, do people give you crap about having gears? I ask because the bike pictured otherwise looks like it's ridden by someone who uses it for transportation and not spandex-laden club rides.

Up here in laid-back Davis, if it rolls as the result being pedaled, nobody really cares or is the slightest bit impressed as to what kind of drivetrain it has.

I would, too. Bad grammar is inexcusable, even in small sentence fragments on stickers.

No. Some people might, I guess, but I don't think most of us encounter them or engage them in conversation much. It seems to be a pretty common stereotype about SS/FG riders, though.

Nah, there's a whole bunch of geared commuters here.

I probably get negative points for having a saddle bag and holding my lines.
