Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

stolen bike...a two part

so my friend had his lock chopped outside of his work on 24th and 6ave in manhattan, he'd forgotten his u lock and didn't realize it until he was at work and locked with just a cable lock, he knows bad idea, don't rub it in, it was a white bridgestone kabuki(sp?) frame with black wheels(not deep v but something slightly similar) with black bar tap and chopped and flopped bullhorns and a front brake, if anyone sees it around the city knock the rider over or PM me about it. What sucks is that he'd gotten the bike for his birthday a month and a half ago, he has an old schwinn road bike that he's been riding as long as i've known him but loved his fixed gear as much as we all do.

what sucks furthermore is that he is literally the nicest guy in the world, he's the kind of guy that'll give you his shoes if you were complaining that yours were bothering your feet, he's the kind of guy that'll help you move out of your apartment from a sixth story walk up on a moments notice after having only known him for a week(true story) he's just an all around great guy.

what i'm trying to do now is get a new bike together for him, i have a few spare stems, brakes, handlebars, cables and brake levers but i'm in need of a frame(and HS and BB), crankset and wheels, i'm going to visit my parents in philly this weekend so i'm going to scour garage sales and thrift stores for frames(and hopefully a usable headset, BB and cranks) but if anyone on here in nyc or philly has any parts they can spare/share/looking to get rid of on the cheap please PM me and let me know, we need to lift ryan's spirits.

let me know,

thanks in advanced,

Dan

tell him to get renter's insurance before he buys his next bike.
something like that is usually covered.

oh ****!
that sucks.
is this by any chance vance's roommate's bike? he was just telling me about his roommate's new kabuki...

i hope he gets it back.

what size frame does he ride? i have an old fuji road frame you can have if you feel like coming out to millersville. i think it's a 62cm.

(p.s... i'm gonna be up in nyc in october to crash CMJ. let's ride.)

everyone is an idiot at one time or another. no exceptions. i can think of a bunch of better ways to scam a free frame though with no record of it being done on the internet. id like to think that there are nice people out there that just want to help their friends but maybe im wrong and everyone is a scamming idiot at all times...who knows?

Exactly. Also I was judging from the fact that soyboy said he has a road bike he's using for now and is looking for a decent frame. Well why not just convert the road frame to fixed if that's what he wants I'm sure any free frame given to him wouldn't up to par with his stolen bike or much different from his roadie. Just think it’s stupid to ask for a frame when he has a usable bike. Yea, stuff happens and if the little tike actually did get his bike stolen he should use his roadie imo until he saves up enough dough to buy a new frame and 2 U-locks

i certainly dont think hes scamming but i fully agree with you that having a bike is better than having no bike. may not be as fun or nice as the fixed but hey...

Yes Erik, it is vance's room mate,he's about a 56 frame size but thanks for the offer,

we can't convert the frame he rode/is riding in the mean time for a few reasons, 1. It's way too big for him and he can barely handle it geared 2. dude is seriously bummed and we want to surprise him to cheer him up,

I'm not trying to scam anyone just trying to help a friend out, if we can't find anyone we know with the parts we'll end up buying them we're just trying to get it together as quickly as possible

yes he made a mistake, pointing that out over the internet is very helpful, if anyone has anything to spare we'll be greatly appreciative, hey I'll even buy you a thank you drink(alcoholic or non is up to you)
