question about cop/ticket

so this happened to me 3 times already,

today i was riding back home from school, on the road, on the right lane and a cop stopped me, i thought i was going to get ticket because i got no brakes and helmet

he did not mention anything about brakes but the helmet instead, he wrote down my name and b-day

and this is the 3rd time cop stopped me on bike and write down my name(without giving ticket or anything)

have anyone of you get ticket or something? do you think i am going to get ticket? like they mail it to my house? i hope not

i am under 18 anyway if that helps haha

That's weird. The other night, there were a bunch of cops downtown walking around. One of them jaywalks in front of me (chick cop) when I had the green and two dudes run me down yelling at me about running red lights. When they stop yelling I calmly tell them I had the green. They point to the light (which had by this point changed to red) and ask me what color it was, as if the thought of it changing was simply unfathomable. Then they asked me where my lights (which were on) were. What a bunch of ******s. Oh well.

LOL. Rae, he took that stuff so if he catches you again he'll escalate beyond a warning. In Idaho, I don't have helmet/brake/stop sign laws so no, it hasn't happened to me

What have you been doing to get pulled over three times? If you want to avoid getting a ticket, stop doing whatever illegal thing is getting the cops' attention.

Oh, I thought you meant that you were getting pulled over for the same thing each time. I'm glad my city doesn't have helmet laws.

Maybe you should ask the cops, instead of us. Or rather, in addition to us.

I'd also mention down at the station that you feel as if you're being profiled.

A cop told me not to ride on the far right side of the road but on the sidewalk once in downtown Orlando. I said no. He kept driving. Who knows what cops are thinking?

I also go hit by a drunk driver downtown. And of course my clippy lights shattered. I'm bleeding like crazy trying to get to my friends house to clean up and a cop walking around yelled at me to get lights. I flicked him off. Who knows?

People fail to realize that random traffic stops and nonsense like this are how most leads for crimes are acquired.

All of us complain about bicycles being stolen, a kid riding around with no helmet that looks like their on a bike that "means business" seems like a good candidate to stop. Maybe they'll act nervous, maybe they have drugs, maybe the bike is stolen... who knows.

Perfect example of a cop doing their job. Don't hate.

Obeying the law can be considered probable cause to arrest, as you are trying to hide from the police. I've been stopped in my car once for this BS. The judge didn't like it one bit.

Exactly. Most of the time if you have nothing to hide they will be able to tell. A simple, "yes sir, no sir" doesn't go astray either. I don't mind swallowing my pride for 5 minutes if its going to save me $70 or so.

I got pulled over while just biking the main loop in Central Park. Apparently it closes at 1:30am or whatever (it was like 2am, I was about 4/5 the way around.. could see where I was exiting) so I have a freakin court summons now for trespassing and disobeying a sign, so I have to appear at the courthouse (read: take a day off work).

Anyone know the law on lights/reflectors in LA/Long Beach, CA area? The other day both my lights were stolen off my bike while I was in class, so I rode real slow on the sidewalk(which I never do) because I didn't want to get hit by a car. 2 minutues into my ride, a cop pulls me over and tells me to ride in the street. I told him my lights were stolen and i didn't want to get hit, and he said it's illegal not to have reflectors, even if you have lights too. Is that true? Working lights aren't enough, you need reflectors too? By the way, he said I couldn't ride on the sidewalk or he'd give me a ticket, so I had to ride in the street sh***ing my pants the whole way home.

Maybe you should use that money for a helmet and a brake first. Then you'd not have to worry.

Most cities in nanny-state locales have helmet laws. Especially for people under 18. You just gotta deal with it.

The fourth amendment would like a word with you. This is the exact kind of mentality that allows cops to get away with racial profiling.

Who the hell wants to grow up and give people BS tickets for the most innocent crimes and make peoples days/weeks miserable? Anyone who wants to give out chicken shi** tickets for a living is worthless. Stopping crimes and helping people is one thing, but traffic and parking cops should get paid $100/hr because no one should want to take that job. And don't give me this BS about "they're just doing they're job" Did they get put into a headlock, dragged down to the station and forced to apply? wtf? No offense eivl evo, nothing against you, I just hate cops

expensive helmets don't make u look fat lol

i'd be the best/worst cop ever, i'd be like hmm underage kids drinking, well as long as they don't drive, meh guy doing 80 on the highway whatever. then i'd just wait for people to do stuff that pisses me off, like omg that guy just passed a bike way to close bam ticket for passing "vehicle" in no passing zone,
