found this on my local cl. he's asking $135 for the set. he didn't mention what kind of hubs though.

what kind of hubs should i be looking for to make this a decent buy? thanks in advance for any responses.

coincidentally for that very ammount of money i would just suggest the formulas laced to cxp22s from bww.

Mavic rims are much better than those Vuelta's
They're lighter, eyeletted and fabriqué en france

For the record, cxp22 rims do not have eyelets. The formula/mavic wheelset is still the better choice, though (I have two).
Regardless of what wheels you end up getting, I would recommend getting them tensioned and trued for optimum durability. All the wheels you will find in that range are machine built, and they might not be ready to ride right out of the box.

thanks for all the replies. i should give a little background so you all know my situation. it's my first conversion with an old mondia frame (found it in my neighbors garage for FREE!!). it's pretty beat but i'm only going to be using it to get around campus. obviously i'm trying to save as much money as possible. so i did some more searching and here's what i found:

How about IRO wheelsets? A bit more than the above options but I hear the quality is up there.

Well that is strange. All I know is that the set that I got from bicyclewheels.com 1.5 years ago does not have eyelets.

cpx22's were made with/without eyelets. all my cpx22's have eyelets.

mine have eyelets.

as for the wheels, i still recommend the cxp22/formula set. out of the sets you listed, if you don't want something a little flashier like the weinmanns, they are the best value. yes i know that the vuelta xrps come with tires and tubes but if you buy all cheap stuff from performance you can get two tires and two tubes for $25. all in all that extra 40 to 45 dollars isn't going to matter. where i live thats 5 or 6 hours of minimum wage in exchange for at least a few hundred more miles and the comfort of being able to drop curbs and ride with confidence.

The Weinmann are quite heavier though, the rim alone is along the line of 700G compared to 500ish for semi-aero/boxed rims like the CPX22

the vualtlas or what ever are the same thing as quando. yes they come with a ****ty cog and ****ty tires but honestly, your best deal is going to be from bicycle wheel warehouse. a friend has thouse, and they are just fine

I'm looking at getting a set of cpx22/formulas for a conversion that I'm going to be working on, but the info given on the BWW site says that the biggest tires they'll take are 700x25. Why is this? I was hoping to put on some 28s for the winter riding. Nice that they throw in a cog and lock ring though.
