noob here.. quick question

i have an iro mkV and a local bike shop told me to file off these little nubs on the front fork if i was to powder coat the frame. they are right where you would mount up the front wheel... it looks like they make sure the nuts don't loosen up and the front wheel slides off?

anyone have any experience filing, sanding, ect. these tabs off?

huh?

Those tabs, often referred to as "lawyer lips", are there just as an extra safeguard against wheel release in the event that you don't tighten down your nuts/quick release. They are completely unnecessary, but they don't impede anything either. You can keep them or file them off, its really your choice. They won't affect the powdercoating, but if you do decide to file them, you should certainly do it beforehand.

With lawyer lips, a quick release is not actually all that quick because after disengaging the qr you still have to unscrew it a bunch to get the wheel off. With the lips gone you can open the qr and pop the wheel right off. If you are not running qrs it makes less of a difference.
