i am rethinking my decision to buy two new wheels from bike island because i have herd they are cheap for a reason.

someone mentioned that i could get a better quality lock ring and cog and that would make them fine but that would require a little more knowledge than i have an maybe even a trip to a bike store to have a professional do it.

what would it take to rebuild a 27 inch wheel with a fixed gear hub.

if anyone could like me to some parts and instructions that would be helpful.

i am thinking maybe i just want to rebuild the 27 inch wheel for purposes of not lowering the bottem bracke anymore because it will be a fixed gear.

My advice is just buy a new rear wheel. If you've never built a wheel before, and you set out to make the perfect one as a way of saving money, you will probably be disappointed. If, however, you set out to just learn how to build a wheel, you will pretty much definitely be successful, although you'll probably have a weird rim and a lot of extra money thrown in for mistakes.

My LBS built me a CR18 on a whatever formula hub for $130 (CDN). I take it up and down curbs all the time, and the spokes are still tight. AND your LBS will usually give you free truing/tightening if they build you the wheel. At least they damn well should. And yeah, rock the 27s. For one thing, not many people do it, and as you say, it'll keep the BB where it should be.

thaks for the reply...i just went to my local bike shop and they got a 27inch fixed gear wheel with a cog on it. for under 100 dollers.
