2008 SE Draft - worth it to switch out the crank...?

I bought a SE Draft from Performance here... because the price was simply, at $219, too good to resist, but now I'm wondering if I would've been better off buying a Schwinn Madison from a LBS for $499...

Now, I like the bike FINE, but if I want to put clipless on it, I'm going to have to switch out the BMX crank that's on it to one that will accept 9/16" pedal threads... despite rumors of " 1/2" SPD pedals on the internet" I have yet to find any. Its an American BB, so I can either buy a BMX crank kit, or get the adapter and put in a Euro road crank.

I'm just wondering by the time I drop the $$$ for the crank, new chain, chainring, and pedals if its worth it... compared to leaving it as is and just buying a SS that will take clipless pedals now.

You could easily spend the price you spend on the whole bike for a decent crank, ring, bottom bracket +adapter, chain...etc. It might be worth it to put better pedals on but beyond that it seems like bad economics.

Well, this is a hell of lot cheaper than a new crank! Thanks!

Performance bike had the SE Lager on sale for $399.00 last week in Columbus, OH. http://www.sebikes.com/2008/images/popups/Lager.jpg

We have two stores in Sacramento; the one that I go to only had the Drafts. However, I just went ahead and ordered the adapters hockeyteeth suggested, and I have an pair of used Shimano SPD pedals in the parts box that I can slap on. :)

I've swapped out the stock seat for a Selle Italia Prolink Gel that I got off of Pricepoint and I put a Ritchey composite seatpost on it, so next week, when the adapters get here, I'll be ready to rock and roll. Thanks again for the tips, folks.
