Are you probably a hipster?

You may not want to admit it. But it's probably been said about you.

dayvan cowboy 05-15-08 03:10 PM

probably has.

sfcrossrider 05-15-08 03:16 PM

I'm hip, and I ride a bicycle BUT my taste in clothes, and bikes exclude me.

bryanhayn 05-15-08 03:19 PM

Only time will tell. Right now I'm hipster because I've been riding for only a few weeks. In exactly 383 days, if I'm still riding, I will no longer be hipster.

t0fu 05-15-08 03:20 PM

i don't think my pants are tight enough to be a hipster

goldenskeletons 05-15-08 03:22 PM

there's way way waaaaaaayyy worse things out there to be than a hipster.

are we really still complaining about this?

also, buying a fixie no longer qualifies you as hip. its certainly not cycling-specific.

lanOGiro 05-15-08 03:26 PM

This is the Nteenth f***ing time this topic has been threaded. Stop it!!! Some things can happen in your head and not need to be typed on a screen.

I wasn't complaining. I just think it's funny. I've never really heard anyone call themselves a hipster. Mainly because if you call yourself a hipster, you're a poser. I'm just wondering how many people think they probably are. Which may or may not actually make them a hipster. Hipster logic is mind boggling.

goldenskeletons 05-15-08 03:33 PM

i know you mean well, but just remember that there are worse things people can shoot at you than just dirty looks in brooklyn. williamsburg is only gonna be hip for so long!

I got my first "fixie" twenty-two years ago. I'm hip because I'm hip... the fact that I ride bikes just makes me fit as well as hip.

kjohnnytarr 05-15-08 03:35 PM

Sometimes this place is like a junior high.

Yoshi 05-15-08 03:37 PM

yes:
*vegan
*rides a fixed gear
*rides an Italian road bike
*has a messenger bag
*stretched ears
*tattoos

no:
*races (road and track)
*wears non-tight clothing
*wears tight clothing, but it's spandex
*straight-edge
*engineering/science degree
*software engineer

So I don't know, you tell me.

I havnt been on here in a minute. never really was. Seems hipsters are still a topic of conversation. Hipsters ride FG's. . . they will inevitably be on this forum. Why does it matter?

bbattle 05-15-08 04:29 PM

No, I'm too old, too out of any fashion, and ride a San Jose with front AND rear brakes. My helmet cost more than most of the bikes in the SS/FG and my spandex collection is immense.

goldenskeletons 05-15-08 04:30 PM

heh heh, bbattle yer kinda my role model a little.

Where'd their necks go?

craigmoyer 05-15-08 06:43 PM

i guess so. i wear ironic shirts sometimes, ride fixed gear bicycles, drink pbr, wear messenger bags, etc.

stereotyping, i guess.

FarAwayBoy 05-15-08 06:48 PM

What exactly is the pants tightness cut-off before they become hipster-esque?

chase. 05-15-08 08:10 PM

raver < 99-03 frat boy < your dad < your mums < fashionable if you're in shape < hipster < ranch hand < 80s NYC coke queens

Snails 05-15-08 08:19 PM

why is PBR hip?

FarAwayBoy 05-15-08 08:40 PM

Being that pretty much all of my pants are Levis 514's...
I think those would sit somewhere around hipster tightness.
Thus, hipster I am.

jpdesjar 05-15-08 09:12 PM

I have hips therefore I am a hipster

PBR has been considered the "working man's beer" since the 1840's or something like that. Why the fixies adopted that brand of beer I really have no idea, except for the messenger angle. Maybe Bud is for the NASCAR crowd.

I'll have a glass of full-bodied Merlot wine with my fixie, thank you!

werdna 05-15-08 10:16 PM

i'm just gonna throw this out there: slim jeans feel and look way cooler that baggy ones. i'm not sure if the cut of my pants qualifies me as hip, but if it does then being hip is easy!
