good fixed hub for street use?
Hey everyone, I was thinking about getting a new rear fixed wheel built up, and was just wondering what fixed hub would be good for daily riding/commuting (20 miles [give or take] or less a day). As for the rim I was planning on getting a Mavic Open Pro. I was thinking about getting a Miche track hub, but when searching on the forum I was reading on Miche hubs not being reliable.

hello
One of mine cracked in the middle of a long ride. I found a large washer at the side of the road and used it as a spacer and was able to continue on with the ride, no problem. Replacements locknuts are available.

I've had no problem with miche's or formulas. Lots of hubs are just the same ones re-badged. If you want a cool color go with the new iro hubs, they're like 50 bucks and they're nice, or go with formulas. I'm thinking about building a phil/mavic wheelset though.

if you're talking about the ones in the bargain basement on the IRO site, I bought those too. the front hub ( at least the ones I got) was just a regular quick release, you'll need a skewer. but still a good deal for 30 bucks!

Sure, as long as its not an ultra-weight weenie hub. Keep in mind that no hubs, except for BMX hubs, are really built for tricks. You could also use a MTB front hub. But, I wouldn't build a 24 spoke front wheel if I wanted to do tricks. I'd go with at least 36, or 32 if you are a small person.
