I did something stupid
so i was hacksawing the frame shifter mounts off a fram for my gf. i cut it too close and when i went to knock off the last little bit with a hammer and chisel it peeled a little hole in the tube. i knocked the flap back in place, but there is still about a 2 mm rip in the tube. i tried flexing it as hard as i could and it doesn't seem to hurt the integrity, but i am still worried that actually riding forces will be much more than i can replicate with my hands and feet. She weighs maybe 110 and doesn't ride that hard, she will rock a brake on it, wont be hopping curbs at speed or sprinting, but is this still a problem? its a steel frame, double butted. if it is a significant problem can it be fixed?

You might want to post in the frame builders forum along with a pic. You will get much better answers there.
|
if you do that, don't tell them how it happened
|
Or just post a picture here so we can see...just for kicks.
|
Take the frame to a muffler shop and get them to patch the hole with a weld. Then FILE it down, put away the saw.

In the future, use a blowtorch to heat up the braze-ons and they just pop off. |
[QUOTE=jet sanchEz;6731355]Heheh, this reply killed me, thanks.
+1 and still laughing. To the OP...tell them you forgot to unscrew the shifters when you were prying them off. |
tell them you got the frame for free in that condition. I'd just buy a pack of big league chew and stick it in your hole... :)

god. shoot me now.
|
"It ran into a doorknob, I swear!"
|
We need to know kind of frame you ripped a hole in. I hope it said Hetchens, Paramount, Pinarello or something like that.
