Good SingleSpeed frame in Australia
After recently crashing my roadbike and a change in my circumstances I am looking at getting a singlespeed as my main mode of transportation (no car). I quite like the look of the Schwinn Madison but I don't need half the components on it.
I am not really interested in rebuilding an old road frame and ideally would be looking to get something like a Bareknuckle, I looked at getting an IRO frame but unfortunately postage to Australia is $400 on a $300 frame. So does anyone know anywhere in Australia I can get frames similar to that of IRO Angus/bareknuckle? |
hey,
of the mass produced type rides there are quite a few options... all the surlys and the salsa casserole are available in aus through dirtworks. most bike shops can order through them. you could go an on-one il pompino through definitive cycles (just google easy to find, nice quick service, $60 postage!) - i am in the process of getting one for my winter ride. pake or soma rush are easy to get in aus. masi, kona and the cannondale whatever they are called are also available. bianchi pistas are common too, as are hillbricks which can be set up for ss with the back brake deal. racelines are around too. good luck! |

these might all be out of your price range, but there was a whole australia track bike thread back in january...
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ight=australia there's some really nice stuff in there. if you buy one you have to show us. |
Thanks for the advice guys, I've looked into all those suggested and have found a few frames that I like. I am probably most keen on getting the Pake but they seem to be all soldout online, if anyone knows a store in Melbourne that stocks them then please let me know.
Also looked at a few Masi and Kona complete bikes but they end up more expensive than the Madison and don't look as good either. I'm not too keen on the look of the Surly or Salsa frames either, call me picky. The Madison wont be in stock for at least a few weeks yet so will try and do some more looking around to see what I can find. |
khs flite 100 frameset goes for about $250 in melbourne.

I do not find the KHS flite all that aesthetically pleasing, I've also been looking at the Bianchi Pista, which shouldn't be too hard to find considering the size of the brand. I really like the frame but the complete bike is pretty equally spec'd as the Schwinn Madison but far more expensive.

what about allegro? they are dropping a lugged frame in august

There are alot of australia builder..and check out
Hillbricks they're very good frame. I have a pursuit funny bike frame for sale..let me know if u interested. |
If you just want a singlespeed frame. Pick up an old frame with horizontal drops from your local paper, 2nd hand bike store etc where you'll probably get a better price than EBay.
You say you don't like 'the look', though many just look like each other. What you want to spend will dictate what you get too. You could get a better 2nd hand frame for less than a Pake. |
In the end I decided to order a Bianchi Pista frame and will build it up myself. Was going to get the Schwinn Madison but after all the money spent on replacing the cheap stock components it worked out cheaper just to start from scratch.
