Question regarding frame integrity?

I'm thinking of purchasing this frame from a guy down the street who used it for racing. The only things of concern for me are the rear trinagle and seat post that the owner modified himself. This was done to make room for othe gearing of 51x15 as well as the use of 23x700c wheels. Looking at the pics do you think that this has anyway compromised the frames integrity? What would it cost to fix this if need be? I appreciate all replies.

Thank you

Yes it probably has, but I don't know. Take it to a qualified shop or better yet a bicycle builder and find out. The builder may be able to remove and replace that section of the frame, for which I would guess they could charge you upwards of $500. Good luck man.

i really don't know if it would or not, and it somewhat depends on what method he used to bend it. i'm thinking it's chromoly of some sort? if you're worried about it, don't do it. not worth worrying about.

It's steel. The paint will usually start to crack and stretch if it starts to fatigue.
If it were mine. I'd ride it and watch for cracking. Maybe yearly. Or every other year, if I have the time, you know?

That doesn't mean I wouldn't try to get a rock bottom price because of the "custom work"

I wouldn't pay more than $20 for an iffy frame. (Actually I wouldn't buy it at all, but if I were to buy it, $20 would be the limit on something that hasn't been treated very well.)

I was told by him that he used a ball peened hammer to make the indentations. The seat tube modification is about an inch and a half long. He said that his friend who is a frame builder(Forgot name) in Milwaukee said it was ok. Im thinking I may use the $200 for a Mercier frame instead.

He wants $200 for a beat up old frame!

Look elsewhere; there are plenty of good frames around.

Dervish,

Is your sig a reference to the Flobots? BTW the frame is a parkpre. What do they usually run brand new? I haven't been able to find the frame online with a price.

Yes it is - and it's driven me nuts since he showed up a month ago and started spamming the **** out of every god forsaken thread with incoherent idiocy and rampant misspellings.

Edit:
I mean like this:

I mean, you're certainly entitled to an opinion, but do you really need to interject it into every SINGLE thread? You never post anything helpful, funny, witty, or amusing. You annoy me. And you disgrace the band from my hometown. So double middle finger to you.

is it just me that questions why that "custom work" was done in the first place? what kind of crazy tight rear triangle wont fit 23s and from the looks of those photos, there was plenty to start. and the seatstay bridge?? wtf???
