Converting Campy wheel to SS?
I have a Campy Scirocco rear wheel that I want to run single speed on my San Jose. There are simple conversion kits for Shimano free hubs(surly, performance, etc), does anyone know of a Campy version? Can I use the Shimano version or will it be incompatible with the splines on the free hub?
Thanks, Roger |
shimano splies are very different than new campy. Best bet is to take apart an old campy cassette and use spacers. Campy splines are a lot taller than shimano, so they may be less likely to gouge than shimano.
Since you will be using a broken up cassette, and if you are worried about gouging the freehub body, you could always use some of the larger cogs that are riveted and paired to the aluminum spider so you have a wider mating surface. It won't be as clean, but the side benefit is that since you are using a tensioner anyway, you can easily run a 2-speed setup (just dismount, and move the chain over). HTH |
You can change the cassette body.
Shimano compatible cassette bodies for Campagnolo wheels are difficult to find but this solution allows you to use 1/8" or 3/32" cogs… I don't know Scirocco wheels but have done that on a old Shamal and it works pretty well. tarquin |
