fixed gear body of knowledge?
Hey,
I'm very comfortable with my bike and my ability to repair it when necessary, but it seems I'm always learning something new from a friend or online. Is there a book or anything[like an idiot's guide to fixies] out there on fixed gear? thanks |
sheldon brown is a great place to start
start there...not sure about any specific books |

Read articles by the venerable Sheldon Brown.http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.html

I actually learned ALOT from him, but it seems there are a lot of fine details he doesn't think to mention. He is great, don't get me wrong, but it just seems he leaves some stuff out.

what sort of details? he seems to cover just about everything.

i think the same is true with any subject in that trying to consolidate all information into one location is infeasible as there will always be 1 more iota of information not included or forgotten. i think you figured it out already anyway: between friends and the internet, you piece together your own knowledge until you can figure out everything on your own. if not, there are always friends and the internet. not to mention sharing knowledge with others always makes you retain that knowledge that much better no? happy learning!

Really, the only thing that isn't covered one Sheldon's collection of pages is the stuff you get from personal experience. There's some stuff you just have to learn on your own
