What do people think of them? Did a search of the forums but didn't see much. How do these compare to the roll top packs? |

FGG seems to like them a lot, but kept begging for a bottom strap. If you are handy enough to put a bottom strap on then you should be good to go. |
I have both a roll top and a flap top, here's my take - for rolling around short distances getting in and out of the pack multiple times on a trip... go with the flap top aka messenger pack, it's easier and quicker to get into. for longer rides ie long commutes to work etc, the roll top is a bit more weather proof and the roll helps keep the shape of the sack at the top.
One upside to the flap top's is there is more over the shoulder visibility compared to the roll tops, which can get in your line of sight. I also think the the pockets and compartments on the flap top are better than the roll. |
freight seems to be everyones favorite for backpacks
|
yes too bad it is impossible to find any new info on freight online. i hear the guy only has a phone number. plus its probably out of my range pricewise.
|
hmm..should I influence you to buy, or not buy? I'll go with not buy. They're ugly.

i wish chrome put that back padding on their messenger bags.

I have a roll-top, and I love it. However, I'll agree with [jbucky] here - the regular 'messenger style' seems to be more backpack-type minded. It's not as wide as the roll-top. On the roll-top I have to really stick my head out to either side when checking for cars (I have the medium / Ivan). Chrome should have a picture of their messenger pack with a bunch of stuff loaded in it also. Also, the roll-top does have a hip strap, but what I've found is that they can be useless unless they really fit around your hips, if you get a smaller size this usually requires lowering the shoulder straps a bit, which I [personally] can't stand. Just some more info...
