Rear wheel slipping?

So I bought a new bike at the end of last summer. I didnt really ride it a whole lot then it got cold. The little I did ride it though I noticed that my rear tire slipped when making turns. I thought maybe the tires sucked so I bought some new ones. The ones that came on it were 23's I bought some 26's. I figured some extra surface area couldnt hurt. That didnt work.

My back tire will slide out from behind me when I make a turn, at pretty much any speed unless I'm making the most gradual turn even. Also, sometimes when I'm pedaling fairly hard I also notice that my rear wheel slips too. I've never had anything like this happen to me before. I've ridden a lot of friends bikes and this doesnt occur on theirs either.

Also, my crank makes a wonderful creaking sound, only when my right foot begins its upstroke. If I spin the back wheel off the ground, no noise. Only when I'm pedaling with force, and only on that one side, in that specific point in pedaling.

tl;dr Rear wheel slips, crank creeks

Are you cleaning your tires with anything? Tire shine made for cars, when applied to your tread, could do that. That is extremely odd that your tire can lose traction like that, dangerous too. Maybe try letting a few pounds of air out the tire?

Perhaps there's no air in your rear tire?

This is going to be a good thread.

I dont grease my tires and they are full of air.

it helps to put the tl;dr at the top. nub

why would " too long, didnt read" go in the begining. If theyre going to skip over it all because it all looks too wordy, a summary would be helpful. Logically, a summary goes at the end. By the way, thanks for the advice and nice to meet you.

I have Soma Everwears on it and have been reading around and the general consensus is that they have ****ty traction. Can anyone agree / disagree with this, and if you disagree what is a better tire to get.

Is the hub on the wheel loose? When the wheel is in the frame, can you rock it back and forth?

What do you mean by back and forth? Side to side? The hub / wheel doesnt move side to side unless a lot of force is used then it is just slight flex.

And thanks, that the thread I was reading before.

This sounds very odd, I'd like to see someone get to the bottom of this one.

Maybe that's the secret why those somas last so long when skidding. No traction=no wear on skidz
