Help convert to fixed
 

Hi to all,

This is my first post here so a special hello to all out there.

I'm looking for suggestions on converting my 26" Men's Schwinn Skyliner Comfort Bike from Walmart to a fixed gear single speed.

Is it possible to have another rear wheel for it that has a fixed single speed gear? Whether put together or purchased. It comes with a 26 x 1.95 wheel.

I'd like it so I could just remove the existing rear wheel, rear derailer (if it will not just lay out of the way) and chain and put on a different fixed rear wheel and shorter chain to accomplish this so I may fairly easily convert back and forth.

p.s. it's just a silly project I want to do for fun without spending too much.

Could you possibly post pictures of the bike? Preferably some with closeups of the rear wheel.

Here you go. I also took some rough measurement and it looks like my hub spacing is about 135mm and my chainline is about 46mm to the center of three.

OK, first of all, it has a vertical dropout which makes it difficult to adjust the chain tension. Second, many track hubs are designed with a 120 mm hub spacing (although it is possible to put in spacers granted the axle is big enough to fit). It's not impossible, but it would take work, and a couple of headaches.

I'm hoping to be able to get another 26" wheel that comes with any type tire but has a fixed hub, have you heard of one? Where might I find it?
