Chainrign distance from frame

Just put together my new conversion. I placed the 46t chainrign on the back of the cranks. LBS ordered me a 110mm bb. With chainring on outside it seemed too out of line with the rear cog. In this position the chainrign is 3-5mm from the chain.
I rode about 40 mikes today on flats with some big bridges. The frame isn't scratched. Can this tight spacing be an issue?
