basically i narrowed it down to this seller. its pretty much the same wheel except for different hubs, pretty much my question is which hubs are better? or should i choose a different wheelset altogether?

well one is machine and one is not machine you have to decide if you want machined sidewalls or not. apples to apples one is green one is red...

Depending on your budget, you might want to dish out the extra cash and get the velocitys. I actually have a pair of the weinmanns and sort of regret it. People complain about the seems splitting a lot, they come with metal shavings still in the rims, etc.
Just a heads up before you buy Weinmann. But I also know a lot of people who have no problems and I've put 30 or so miles on mine with no real issues yet. |
I've put hundreds of miles on my new weinmanns in the last two weeks, no problems. My old set showed a hint of seem splitting but I'm sure they took care of it.
|
Neither.

maybe i should be more informative on my post. im looking to spend less then 200 shipped. have a white rim, black spokes, and a fixed/free hub.
|
i'm happy with my dp18/formula set. cheap bombproof heavy and good looking.
|
or is there another seller i could get this set up from?

I would personally pick the formula set myself. I have the same set but yellow rims and black hubs/spokes. If you take care of them right away they will a great set of wheels. Psst I got my set from Wheel and Sprocket and they took my offer of $120 on the asking price of $199, plus it helped I could pick them up in the store. But point is offer much lower and they will more than likely accept.

velocity baby

if it was me, out of those 2 choices id get the unmachined dp-18s, to answer your question

Ugh, the metal shavings!! I went through three tubes within the first two days of having my DP-18s, before I sanded down the interiors of the rims. No issues after this fix, but still frustrating.

man, why white? Why not red, yellow or black? Why you gotta be racist and ****?

im asian... it matches my bike. how about from here? and thanks for the offer tip. oh yeah. i run a front brake does it really matter what if its machined or not?

you should get the IRO rim set - you can specify white rims. $269 and a quality build - pretty decent hubs.

Get the all-Australian Velocity's. There's a reason why so many use them... bombproof!

what are some cheap white hubs? i can't decide between black rims white hubs and white rims black hubs

Get the wienmanns and don't look back, Velocitiy Deep-V's are basically the same rim, with possibly better finish. When some one slags them ask them to explain From a technical stand point why velocitiys are better, the explanations that follow will have priceless entertainment value.

You see those little stickers? You're paying for them and nothing else. I firmly believe that Weinmanns are on par with "real" Deep Vs--until someone comes up with an independent, empirical, scientific test on strength differences they will both last the lifetime of your bike and look just fine. cue endless bashing and anecdotal evidence of destroying weinmanns in one day. edit: I argued this with Oh No before and one has to remember I am strictly talking about the rims themselves. Build quality is entirely dependent and it's no doubt a hand-built wheel will stay true longer and be stiffer than a machine-made Weinmann/Formula. But rim-to-rim they are remarkably similar. |
Cane Creeks look good.

I have dp-18's laced to formulas. 200 miles for far of curb hopping city riding and they are still true.
