Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cinelli Olympic

I thought I would send you some of my fixed gear fleet photos. The attached is a late model Cinelli Olympic Track frame with the following components:
Phil Wood High Flange track hubs front and rear,16 tooth cog, Mavic Open Pro 32 hole rims w/Avocet 23mm tires, Phil Wood S/S bottom bracket,
T.A. Cyclotourist Crank arms with drilled 46 tooth chainwheel, T.A. Track Pedals and Christophe clips, Chris King headset, Nitto Steel Track bars and Stem, Campy TI seatpost, Brooks Swallow Ti seat. This is a really sweet handling track bike for the street. Very quick and lively. It is great fun in traffic.

Soooo pretty... reminds me a little of my DeBernardi in color and look. Who do you like toe clips? Are they strong?

Those Cinelli's are just art. Beautiful in its design and function. Fixer's is the other red devil that comes to mind.

toe clips

The reason I like toe clips is, that is what I started out with in the 1960's. For awhile on my previously owned multi gear bikes I followed the then current fashion of clipless pedals. I found when I was riding fixed I felt more connected and less likely to pull out of the pedals when riding brakeless. I guess I just never got comfortable with clipless after trying it for a few years.
Some people advocate clipless on fixed but I think it is personal preference and neither is "Better".
