question about: pake and iro
i already tried using the search and looked at the threads and none of them helped or answered my question.
my dad is planning on buying me a bike frame and then he said i could get started from there. the only problem is that i'm pretty short i'm about 4'11 1/2" so i have a hard time finding a frame. I ride a 49 cm schwinn caliente now and it feels pretty crammed. i looked at the iro and it said that I should get the heidi frame and the pake the smallest is only 49 cm. do you think that i should go to a bike shop and get fitted first or just go buy what the website says? this would be my first fixed gear bike hope you guys can answer my question thanks |
IRO heidi

edit: and most shops I've gone to don't even do free fittings for bikes under $1000. |

i saw a school kid riding a pake yesterday. it looked like a preetty cool bike. i wondered if he built it up from scratch as it's offered frame only on their website.
+1 for a pake. and get yourself measured first. |
look what google can find when you search "bike fitting"
http://www.cyclemetrics.com/Pages/Fi..._fit_links.htm whodathunk? |
If you're that short, I'd get a 44cm. That will be hard to find, yes, but worth it.
Also, I think people are talking about 'fitting' differently. If you want to jump on a fit-cycle and get all the measurements you'll need (if you never grow another inch) then drop ~$150+ for that. A fit-kit is slightly less expensive. If you simply want to test ride different sizes, feel different seat heights, etc, then any shop will do that. |
i've heard of lbs's offering free fitting. fyi, they say the right tt length is the most important part of fit (not that the other specs aren't as well), and i agree.

Seat-tube length can be adjusted simply by raising the saddle, to compensate for longer legs relative to a torso. On the contrary, top-tube length can be lengthened / shortened, but with drawbacks. Running a shorter stem can throw the control and steering of the bike off (say going from 100mm to a 80mm). If you have a shorter torso relative to your legs, it's better to drop down a size as you will not be as stretched out as much, or feel like the bike is riding you. Personally, I'm 5'10 and ride a 54cm because of this very reason. You can always raise the saddle height to make it fit your legs, you can't always shorten the frame to fit your torso. |
