Bear claw pedals
I saw a fixie with bear claw pedals in the garage of the guy I bought my last bike from.
Is riding fixed with bear claws a very bad idea? Has anyone tried it and kept their shins intact? |
if they allow for clips & straps, it could be a fine idea. otherwise, don't do it.

I have. Riding around town/easy riding is fine; I was just too lazy to strap in/out. Did it brakeless as well for a year.
I did crank it really hard from a stop (with good chain tension and lube), and the chain popped, dropped my left foot to the floor (flintstones stop), my balls on the top bar (no padding =/, but i was saved), and my right shin ground up. pics for reference. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...4182008361.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...4182008366.jpg switched to my straps on my scraper bike (not nines) which have been giving me less knee problems as well as a much better crank rotation. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...6072008387.jpg |

I love it when people make up words for stuff... bear claw pedals is the best.

Actually, I don't think he made it up:

Those are Hutch/Crupi knockoffs.
|
I've always called those bear trap pedals. Only the Hutch-type with the round cage.

I ride with these. The foot retention can't be beat.
