That keirin brake kit is essentially exactly what I am looking for. EDIT: There is a rear kit available, although out of stock. http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...2ccfd6c8b2d4dc |

My single speed has breaks on front and back... and yeah it doesn't look as clean or cool, but **** me, i actually commute to work and use my bike for something other than going to the coffee shop. |

I hate to jump on the bandwagon to tell you how bad of an idea this is so I will attack this from a different direction.
A question: What parts on a bike are not really needed. i.e. what parts on a bike do not serve a usefull purpose? I would conjecture that there are very few parts on a bike that are not essential for the bike actually functioning or providing a level of safety. Take away almost any single part on a bike, and the bike becomes useless. Pedal, wheel, headset, bar, stem, chain, tire, tube,.... etc. When bombing down a hill, I would say that brakes no longer qualify as an accessory. I have ridden down hills going 50-55mph for extended amounts of time and ride with the flow of traffic. Every time I get down, I am glad that I have a bike bike in excellent mechanical shape and that I had control over my descending speed. Putting on a chessy rear brake and a lever in a position that takes your hands off the bars is a great way to kill yourself. Ever try riding one handed going 50mph? If you have, I doubt is was at the same time you were trying to scrub off speed so you could make a corner. Don't be silly, get a real brake. |

hilarious.

just use your foot to slow the tire.... and bring two pairs of shoes.

If you have big decents, make sure you have proper brakes, front and back.
It is all fun and games until you melt a tube while trying to scrub off speed on a decent... That whole "Zen" thing gets thrown out the window. |

You should get a frame builder to weld those breaks shut so your bike doesn't rip in half.

you spelled brakes "breaks" he thought your frame was broken
