A Joke at the LBS?
My favorite LBS in the Twin Cities, gave me a laugh, or at least something to think about this week. I hauled my Gary Fisher in for a BB replacement, it is an old C clip BB, something I don't have the tools, or the knowledge to get into. So, as the mechs are looking over the bike for an estimate I look at the bikes around the shop. I found a Surly Steamroller built up, rather nicely, and I looked it over, a little on the steep side of the price tag, but still interesting. I looked the bike over and had my chuckle. Here the Surly Steamroller had been built up as a fixed gear with, what? Suzue hubs.
I didn't ask if this was a mistake, or had they thought of building a Surly with another company's hubs. It just had me chuckling, and wondering "Hmm." |
HA! That's funny...

Were the Suzue hubs built to MA3s? If so, more than likely they are the QBP wheelset and it was easier to buy than build. Not a HUGE fan of machine built wheels...

qbp's wheels are hand built, i'm almost positive.

They are hand built.

Joke
It depends what Suzue hubs were on the bike. If they were the low end ones I agree.they would have not been worth it. If they were the NJS approved loose ball cup and cone variety they would be top of the line as proven by their use in professional Kerin racing around the world. Check out John Dacey's site www.businesscycles.com for an evaluation of the NJS Hubs. I think you might be suprised.

It's not as if the Steamroller is a high-end frame anyways.. (??)

Anytime :) |
lemme see now.....*peruses massive QBP catalog for that exact 'Bikebuilder' kit*
Anyway, is there a rule, whereby if you own a Surly or whatever, you have to kit the bike out with all Surly parts? Coz, like, that would be dumb. :) |
