Flat fix on the go?
 

So I just got my first SS, and I really enjoy riding it. It just begs to be ridden, hop on it and go. Not having quick release skewers, is there a practical way to have a flat fix kit and use it on the road? I'd like to ride distances with the bike, but I'd hate to get 15mi out and then have to walk home due to a flat. What do you guys do?

Use the 15mm wrench, remove the wheel, and fix the flat like on any other bike.

a surly jethro tool is an extravagant way to have both a wrench and a bottle opener at all times...

I just carry a shortened 15mm closed end Craftsman wrench.

Yea just go to Sears and buy a 15mm craftsman wench. Lifetime warranty, werd.

carry along an extra bike... one that weighs less than ~ 20lbs or so. Heavier spares are probably more trouble than they're worth on long rides ... (unless of course you get a flat - in which case weight is no longer an issue).

get an aerospoke wheelset,,,its impossible to flat with one

Just got done restoring (which in my definition is cleaning the **** out of and repacking/greasing/installing everything frame up) a '73 Motobecane Grand Jubile, so it's fresh on my mind, that page.

But seriously to answer your question... I had a little multitool (not a Leatherman, I have one of those too..) that was a cheap adjustable wrench with foldout phillips and flathead screwdrivers. That and a small little 5 and 6mm allen key (stack bolts, pedals, quill stem, bars, seat, seatpost) fit in my saddle sack or my backpack always and yes its a sin to use an adjustable wrench on a bike, but if you're ****ed, the thing would remove my 15mm track nuts when set all the way open. I sufficed.

I call my girlfriend to come and get me. Seriously, I ride with a jacket/backpack/jersey with full pockets whenever I have to get somewhere on time. If I'm out on a novelty ride I don't worry about it too much, sometimes a nice walk is just that.

I keep a cone wrench in my seat bag.
