odd chain guard?
Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the point of a guard like this?

Duh, we all grind rails with the same foot forward each time.
On road cranks. Hmm. |
chainguard grind
|
hopefully your foot position is perfect 100% of the time..
|
its to grab your laces and make foot retention permanent...
|
so i can be like john prolly!!!!
:) |
haters...
video and information here You always grind with the same foot forward and it's either DS with leading forward or DS with trailing back. The OG crusher was a softer aluminum and wore down quickly. This one's 7075 and it's held up quite well. With regards to the "road cranks" comment. I've ridden, c-record, 75's, omniums and RD's and couldn't tell a difference. Which I bet you 100% in a blind test, you couldn't either. Also, why mess up $300 cranks doing tricks anyway? Besides, ****'s fun as hell. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3058/...d3b0d81cd8.jpg |

Have you ever missed the bash guard and knocked / snapped your chain off? |
the way you grind makes it hard to snap the chain. If you miss, you hit your pedal. Which I've done. Numerous times. Mostly on taller ledges where I lack the "ups" to get onto correctly.
|
The same foot forward thing wasn't meant as sarcasm -- it really does make sense that you only need a partial bash guard for grinding.
The whole road crank thing is what boggles my mind. It's not that I think it belongs on 144 BCD cranks. It's that it can be had for $20 on BMX cranks. Maybe there's a big market for this thing, but it wouldn't have occurred to me to manufacture it. |
A lot of people use RD's on track bikes... BMX cranks don't respond well to back-pressure like skidding. I think the mentality that "if you make it, they will use it" is into play. I get a lot of questions from people wanting to know when it's going to be released. Just goes to show that there are infinite ways to have fun on your bike!
