im at 49x17.....how can i determine if that is good for hilly or flat or somewhere in between?

thanks.

Or you could just read the existing thread that is all about gear ratios.

already looked at that. figured the answer to my question would take less time to type than to link me to a thread ive already seen.

To be honest, after several attempts at reading the post you quoted I still have no idea what that guy was talking about. The best way to determine the best gear ratio for your terrain is to go ride it. In my experience, 49x17 is good for speed on flats but pretty high for any serious hills.

More teeth means you're not from Kentucky
